Trashy Day!

We have been studying natural resources in fourth grade and during our studies we have been looking at what happens to our natural resources if we don’t take care of them or do not or can not replace them. Another conversation that comes out of those studies is all the trash that is produced in our world. In order to look at this “trashy problem”, we spent Wednesday collecting trash and any recyclable items in our own personal “trash bags”. During science, we sorted the trash and collected some data about the trash. This was very eye opening to the kids about how much trash we use in our room alone…take that to the fourth grade level…take that to our hallway…take that to Holmes School…take that to the district’s buildings…take that to Spring Lake…etc. Their eyes were popping at the end of the conversation. We are now talking about how to help protect our Earth and what we can do to make this a better world and to help conserve Planet Earth.

Here are some pictures of us in action!
